As part of The Edge Festival 2009 we caught up with Edinburgh’s Unicorn Kid at Cabaret Voltaire. For fans of the 17 year old electro musician this was a chance to hear his single Lion Hat (named after his trademark headgear) live.

Lion Hat been getting rave reviews and massive mainstream radio coverage since its release earlier this year. His popularity is such that pop legends, The Pet Shop Boys, asked Oliver Sabin to remix their track Did You See Me Coming for a 12″ vinyl release on major label Parlophone. Listen to this feature for a few words from the man himself, recorded after his appearance at The Edge Festival.

Rag & Bone is co-run by long time DJ’s Warlock & Noyeahno.

Their love of electronic music started independently way back in the late eighties with the birth of acid house and the early rave scene. With both being involved with pirate radio and playing at parties far and wide, it was inevitable that their paths would cross and their desire to pull these influences together to release forward thinking music lead to the birth of Rag & bone.

Artists who have released on Rag & Bone include Aaron Spectre, Kanji Kinetic, King Cannibal, Blackmass Plastics, FZV, Drop the Lime and not forgetting Noyeahno & Warlock.

One would reasonably expect things to slow down in clubland in December, but the exact opposite is true for matter. Come next month, matter will host some of the most exciting parties they’ve ever hosted, with the electronic odyssey of Meganite kicking things off in fine style on December 5 with the likes of Yousef and Claudio Coccoluto helming the decks, followed by the critically acclaimed Pendulum and Krafty Kuts leading the charge the following night.

Resident Advisor throw a Christmas party with Modeselektor in charge on December 20, and then, of course, on 31 December, it’s the New Year’s eve party to end all New Year’s Eve parties, with 2 Many DJ’s, The Whip, Filthy Dukes, Delphic, Riotous Rockers, Joakim, Riton and more present and correct to keep us dancing well into 2009.

HMV has promised to pass on the reduction in Valued Added Tax to consumers.

HMV has promised to pass on the reduction in Valued Added Tax to consumers.

As you may have seen, Chancellor Alastair Darling has announced he will cut the VAT rate from 17.5% to 15% as of Monday in a bid to encourage consumers to continue spending despite the pending recession. Of course retailers who actually charge the VAT to customers could continue to charge the same unit price for things and pocket the VAT saving themselves.

But HMV have said they will pass the saving straight onto consumers meaning an £11.99 CD will now sell for £11.74. That said, it is likely price labels will continue to say £11.99 for a while, despite the price cut. Though that’s a nice thing, it means a pleasant surprise when you get to the till. Just don’t get giddy with joy and waste the 25p on a Fudge bar and a Chomp will you?

The music seller said in a statement yesterday: “We are pleased to confirm that the reduction in VAT to 15% will be passed on to customers at the point of purchase, and this will be communicated throughout the store and in our advertising. Although we are passing on the VAT reduction at the point of sale, the re-stickering of our entire stock would represent an enormous undertaking for our sales staff at this very busy time of year, so the prices shown on our product packaging will for the time being remain unchanged”.

Organisers of T In The Park have confirmed AC/DC will NOT play next year’s event.

I think in response to tabloid reports the ageing Aussie rockers had been signed up to play the Scottish festival. T chief Geoff Ellis said in a statement: “I can confirm that AC/DC will not be playing at T In The Park 2009. We do not want AC/DC fans to buy a ticket for T In The Park under false pretences as this would not only disappoint them, but also the many people desperate to get their hands on a T In The Park ticket regardless of the headliner”.

Pip Brown, aka Ladyhawke, has been telling BBC Newsbeat about having Asperger syndrome and being in the public eye.

Pip Brown, aka Ladyhawke, has been telling BBC Newsbeat about having Asperger syndrome and being in the public eye.

AS, which affects approximately one in every 100 people in the UK, is a form of high-functioning autism which causes those with the condition to struggle in social situations. The Vines’ Craig Nicholls also famously has Asperger Syndrome.

Brown said: “I guess in myself it’s not in my nature to open myself up to people and I feel quite exposed. I’m a really private person – I don’t really go out often. I sort of regret opening myself up to the public that much. On the other side of things I am glad that I’ve been able to talk to people in a similar situation. I hear from a lot of people on MySpace who have Asperger. A lot of people I can relate to write me messages and stories about themselves. I only have a very mild form of it and there are some people who have it so bad that they find it too hard to even write a message to me – I love that I’ve been able to talk to people and be able to relate like that”.

She continued: “People shouldn’t be scared of it or anything. Some people don’t even realise that they have it. I went through my whole life not knowing until only a few years ago, when it was just doing my head in and I had to get help”.
