Join us at Film City, Glasgow on Friday 28 October for the Black Bottle Halloween party club night with sounds by DJs Harri, Dave Congreve and James McArdle.

Join us at Film City, Glasgow on Friday 28 October for the Black Bottle Halloween party club night with sounds by DJs Harri (Sub Club), Dave Congreve (RGC/Leftroom/Soma) and James McArdle (Construct). We’ve wangled a free ticket deal with the organisers for all Radio Magnetic listeners.

All you need to do to take advantage of this offer is like Black Bottle on Facebook, go to Film City (the old Govan Town Hall in Glasgow) and tell the people on the door you’re with Radio Magnetic. We’ll sort you out.

You’ll also get a free Black Bottle whisky cocktail on arrival. If you haven’t had that particular whisky before, try it. It’s from Islay and is our favourite blend, and we really like whisky. We really like house music too which is why we’re looking forward to some serious sets by all three acts on the bill. To get you in the party mood, check out these tracks and mixes.

Abi Wingate has cycled from Chang Mai to Scotland, raising money for the Scottish Mental Health Association (SAMH). Join her as she cycles into Edinburgh on Saturday 29 October.

Support Abi Wingate on her return to Edinburgh as she’s cycled from Thailand to Edinburgh over the past six months, raising money for the Scottish Mental Health Association (SAMH) alongside awareness of issues around suicide prevention.

Long time friend of Radio Magnetic, Abi Wingate has made an epic journey from her home in Chang Mai, Thailand returning to Edinburgh, travelling some 15,000 kms on her bike.

She’s returning to Edinburgh this Saturday where you can join her as she cycles through Dunbar at 10am, then Haddington at 11am and the Dalriada pub in Portobello at 1pm. If you’d like to show your support you can help Abi as she’s been fundraising for the Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH) so is looking for volunteers to help reach her £20,000 target.

Her story is inspirational. After realising she was suffering from depression and following the death of a friend to suicide, Abi was inspired to cycle from Thailand to Scotland, raising awareness of mental health issues and suicide prevention. Her project has been 100% self-funded, so if you feel so inclined, showing your support of her mammoth mission will no doubt be hugely appreciated not least by Abi who’s been on the road, mostly sleeping in a tent for half a year!

Not only has Abi been powering herself home she’s also been blogging, tweeting and recording her journey using Flickr, and audioBoo. You can listen to one of her more recent audioBoo’s recorded in Austria.

Abi, old school friends of Radio Magnetic co-founder, Dougal, has departed from her home in Thailand, cycling back home to Scotland.

She’s set herself an admirable £20,000 fundraising target for the Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH) and, only a couple of weeks into the challenge, is already 8% on target.

Visit Abi’s blog to find out how she’s getting on. Throughout the journey Abi, and her travelling companion Jaye, will be posting blogs, tweeting updates, sharing photos and recording audio and video clips.

Here’s the first audio recordings that Abi sent us from her travels. We’ll keep you updated with news on her progress as it happens.

Lets hope he doesn’t sample any Edinburgh seafood in advance of his Queens Hall performance though, as that was this the reason Blur arrived late to their in summer headline slot at T in the Park!

If you didn’t get a chance to see the interactive mechanical band in a box during its residency at the InSpace Gallery during the Edinburgh festival then you’ll have to satisfy yourself with online coverage as its currently resting, although there are plans for a trip to Glasgow in Spring 2010.

The brainchild of Edinburgh-based artist collective FOUND (Ziggy Campbell, Simon Kirby and Tommy Perman) we’re delighted to see that it is still receiving the recognition it rightfully deserves.

Smirnoff: U.R. The Night, part of the Smirnoff Experience™, a Global series of original nightlife events provided the chance to co-create their own even. With a mission to keep good times fresh and original, The Smirnoff Co. asked people to be part of the night by submitting original ideas and voting on different aspects of the event – including the warm-up boat party, music on the night via the DJ’s playlist and original cocktails – in exchange for going to the gig.

Featured here is Chris Tennant from Pet Shop Boys talking about performing to an audience of a couple of thousand people at Matter and how Smirnoff helped create a great party by asking people what they wanted and how they wanted to participate.
