Emile Sande is a Scottish soul singer and songwriter who started out, like most people in the rnb world, studying medicine at Glasgow University. Like many doctors, she then went on to sing on Chipmunk’s debut single. Sande has also worked with the likes of Professor Green and Tinie Tempah.

Dubstep producer Ryeland (not to be confused with the breed of British sheep by the same name) is a UK producer whose first album, In Broadcast, is out now and available to buy from Beatport and iTunes.

To start the series off, here’s a list of our favourite city-based music festivals of all time (not necessarily in order of preference).

1. Electric Frog
   The best dance music festival in Glasgow. A mini carnaval in and around SWG3. On this weekend. Go. It’s brilliant. See you there.
2. Triptych
   Legendary city-wide gigs and clubs in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen. Massive influence on us. Forever remembered fondly.
3. Sonar
   For eclectic electronic music, it doesn’t get much better than Sonar. Not just the By Day and By Night official festival sets, which are brilliantly curated, but the fringe parties. Soma’s 2004 La Terazza party will always be a wonderful memory for our team. What we can remember of it.
4. SxSW
   Where the world’s indie music gets together and goes mad in the beautiful city of Austin, Texas. Responsible for making many a band’s career.
5. Field Day
   If you took the essence of Triptych, or Radio Magnetic, or Dummy Mag or The Quietus or Clash and squeezed it into Victoria Park in London, you would be close to the fresh selection of artists who perform at Field Day. No surprise since the brilliant Eat Your Own Ears are behind it.
6. Primavera
   If Pitchfork met Resident Advisor on holiday in Barcelona, this is what we think they’d come up with.
7. Sziget
   A very diverse line up makes this Budapest-based festival widely appealing, adding to the city’s unsung underground cache of cool. Europe’s best kept secret, perhaps.
8. The Love Parade
   Big, camp, loud, mental and sadly ended in tragedy but as well as remembering those who died, Berlin’s love parade should be remembered for services to dance music: an honorable legacy in our book.
9. I Love Techno
   Ghent’s celebration of electronic music has evolved over the years to put Belgium firmly on the map for techno lovers everywhere.
10. Roskilde
    This Danish non-profit city festival attracts the largest crowds in Northern Europe for a week-long indulgence of some of the best alternative acts around.

The Glue Factory was a derelict warehouse space in the Speirs Locks area of Glasgow until Gary Watt and his team moved in and revived the building as a versatile arts space.

We met Gary when checking out The Glue Factory space (we feel a Radio Magnetic party coming on…) and found out he had a passion for deep dub music so Dougal invited him into the studio to talk us through a selection of his favourite tracks.

Radio Magnetic’s old timer Dougal Perman invites you to listen online to his show Magnetism in an episode which takes a customary wander through a field sewn with strange and varied fruit.

New tracks by Magnetic Man (we like their name and love their music), DJ Fresh, Maps & Atlases and Squarepusher feature amongst other recent, and not quite forgotten gems.
