Listen to a DJ mix in the Homeclubbing series, recorded in our favourite bar. A wander through the darker corridors of the catacombs of Radio Magnetic reveals some crunchy, spikey, tough but beautiful tracks sequenced and selected by Dougal Perman for one of Radio Magnetic’s regular evenings at the IVY bar near our studio in Finnieston, Glasgow.

Like a good night out, this set starts in a wistful yet buoyant mood and builds slowly but surely. You’ll hear new, and recent, electronica, electro and house cuts with some other treats picked up along the way. The Emile Sande track remixed by Ryeland is also available for free download.

Please note: the picture shown isn’t actually Dougal, nor was it taken in the IVY. It’s a stringray lounging in the aquarium at Berlin Zoo, which Dougal snapped while on holiday there recently.

Download and stream exclusive new tracks every day on Radio Magnetic.

Download this free remix of Emeli Sande’s Heaven by electro dubstep producer Ryeland. This is a big sound reworking of Sande’s classic-sounding soulful dance number.

Emile Sande is a Scottish soul singer and songwriter who started out, like most people in the rnb world, studying medicine at Glasgow University. Like many doctors, she then went on to sing on Chipmunk’s debut single. Sande has also worked with the likes of Professor Green and Tinie Tempah.

Dubstep producer Ryeland (not to be confused with the breed of British sheep by the same name) is a UK producer whose first album, In Broadcast, is out now and available to buy from Beatport and iTunes.

As part of our celebration of ten years of alternative, underground music online broadcasting, Radio Magnetic announces a new blog series of top tens celebrating collections of things we really like.

As part of our celebration of ten years of alternative, underground music online broadcasting, Radio Magnetic announces a new blog series of top tens celebrating collections of things we really like.

To start the series off, here’s a list of our favourite city-based music festivals of all time (not necessarily in order of preference).

Electric Frog
The best dance music festival in Glasgow. A mini carnaval in and around SWG3. On this weekend. Go. It’s brilliant. See you there.

Triptych
Legendary city-wide gigs and clubs in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen. Massive influence on us. Forever remembered fondly.

Sonar
For eclectic electronic music, it doesn’t get much better than Sonar. Not just the By Day and By Night official festival sets, which are brilliantly curated, but the fringe parties. Soma’s 2004 La Terazza party will always be a wonderful memory for our team. What we can remember of it.

SxSW
Where the world’s indie music gets together and goes mad in the beautiful city of Austin, Texas. Responsible for making many a band’s career.

Field Day
If you took the essence of Triptych, or Radio Magnetic, or Dummy Mag or The Quietus or Clash and squeezed it into Victoria Park in London, you would be close to the fresh selection of artists who perform at Field Day. No surprise since the brilliant Eat Your Own Ears are behind it.

Primavera
If Pitchfork met Resident Advisor on holiday in Barcelona, this is what we think they’d come up with.

Sziget
A very diverse line up makes this Budapest-based festival widely appealing, adding to the city’s unsung underground cache of cool. Europe’s best kept secret, perhaps.

The Love Parade
Big, camp, loud, mental and sadly ended in tragedy but as well as remembering those who died, Berlin’s love parade should be remembered for services to dance music: an honorable legacy in our book.

I Love Techno
Ghent’s celebration of electronic music has evolved over the years to put Belgium firmly on the map for techno lovers everywhere.

Roskilde
This Danish non-profit city festival attracts the largest crowds in Northern Europe for a week-long indulgence of some of the best alternative acts around.

So there’s our first top ten. We’ll be compiling many more during our tenth anniversary celebration season (which is set to run and run). If you have any ideas for top tens, get in touch. You might agree with us, or you might violently disagree. Comment below, and on Facebook, and let us know.

Radio Magnetic’s old timer Dougal Perman invites you to listen online to his show Magnetism in an episode which takes a customary wander through a field sewn with strange and varied fruit.

New tracks by Magnetic Man (we like their name and love their music), DJ Fresh, Maps & Atlases and Squarepusher feature amongst other recent, and not quite forgotten gems. The image, by the way, is a result of concocting the show name from some of the tracks played. It’s borrowed from the curiously interesting Strange Vehicles website.

From the Middle East, Omar Feruk Tekbelik, via Hefner, London's Last Japan, Roots Manuva and Rodney P guesting on France's Flore. Scottish beats sit alongside a Welsh-Brazilian collaboration and soothing songs from Iceland lead to enigmatic stories from USA.

Listen to the Magnetism internet radio show, online, on demand now on Radio Magnetic. Dougal Perman sequences a selection of upfront new electronic music, beguiling songs and forgotten gems.

The second episode in the summer 2010 series of Magnetism captures the mood of music from around the world, including a Radio Magnetic classic from right back in the early days, from Omar Feruk Tekbelik, via Hefner, plus recent cuts from London’s Last Japan, Roots Manuva and Rodney P guesting on France’s Flore. A Scottish remix of an Italian tune on an Australian label compliments new electronic beats from Scotland alongside a Welsh-Brazilian collaboration. Finally, soothing songs from Iceland give way to enigmatic stories from the USA.
