New music is enjoying a lot of support from online initiatives at the moment, such as The Metro’s Online and On Tour competition, run through it’s MEmusic portal. A new band will win a high-profile tour support slot.

For the past month up-and-coming bands have been uploading tracks on to the MEmusic site, which is powered by online music promotion and retail service, Amazing Tunes.

Users of the site have been rating submissions since the competition commenced on 28 July. MEmusic users are encouraged to keep rating tracks for the next week as the most popular tracks will be most likely to catch the eyes and ears of the industry judging panel, who will announce a shortlist of ten tracks on 1 September.

Five shortlisted acts will perform at the Camden Barfly on 16 September where judges will select the best band to take on tour.

The winning band will tour with Dodgy, the 90s Britpop trio who always had a love for playing live, never took themselves too seriously and are set for a comeback.

The tour takes in seven dates with the bands playing in venues in Birmingham, York, Aberdeen, Glasgow, Liverpool, London and Cardiff.
