13.02.09 | Mylo headlines SoCo Social Mardi Gras Tour

Our friends at the SoCo Social Mardi Gras Tour, February have told us about some free parties they’re putting on in the UK’s most musical cities. SoCo Social Mardi Gras will visit London, Manchester and Glasgow in the space of four weeks, delivering the hottest musical talent from both Europe and New Orleans accompanied by tasty Southern Comfort cocktails.

Skye pop star Mylo, Glasgow’s Killer Kitsch and New Orleans’s Big Sam’s Funky Nation join the line up to celebrate Mardi Gras on Friday 27th February at The Winchester Club, 8pm—1am.

SoCo Social Mardi Gras will draw on New Orleans’ biggest street party, celebrating the last day before Lent. Decked out in extravagant fancy dress thousands of revellers drink and dance to the beat of passing floats all set to the sounds of traditional brass bands and the colourful sites of Mardi Gras beads, masks and costumes. In Glasgow we’re told to expect ‘carnival chic’ with monstrous masks, neon nonsense, glowing beads, vivacious visuals and tasty Southern Comfort cocktails, all mixed up with SoCo Social’s nu-rave-neon festival atmosphere!

MYLO

Miles McInnes probably doesn’t need much introduction. We were the first radio station (online or traditional) to play the man’s music and we’ve enjoyed his party brand of electro pop ever since. He knows how to rock a DJ set. When we co-hosted a tent at the Fiber Fib Festival in Benicassim back in 2005, Mylo joined us and jacked everyone’s bodies to some crunchy acid house. Last year he went down a storm at the SoCo Social at Rockness. Since producing best selling album ‘Destroy Rock n Roll’ he’s remixed The Killers, Amy Winehouse, Kylie Minogue and Scissor Sisters.

NEW ORLEANS TALENT

Representing New Orleans is the energetic and hip Big Sam’s Funky Nation. Presiding over his Funky Nation is Big Sam, formerly the trombonist for the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, who blows the funk out of his trombone and refuses to let the audience sit still. Having performed with global superstars such as U2 and Green Day, Big Sam is ready to showcase his talents to a UK audience. Between solos and trombone riffs, Big Sam second-lines (a uniquely New Orleans style of street-dance, Glasgow line dancers watch out) and gets the crowd going both in movement and in replies to his call-and-response MC-style. A talented group of jazz-trained musicians makes up the Funky Nation, bringing with them the improv-style associated with jazz and the horn-heavy front section a hallmark of big band funk.

KILLER KITSCH

Glasgow’s own two-man party starters have a popular residency at The Buff Club and appeared at Rockness. Having played alongside the likes of Justice, Freeform Five and The Glimmers, we think their electro-disco mash up sets are great fun.

This is a FREE event and complimentary tickets can be applied for at the below address. Over 18s only. Ticket numbers are limited. Make the most of Mardi Gras. Drink responsibly.
