Drowned In Sound founder Sean Adams has responded to chatter regarding the future of the music website following the end of its partnership with BSkyB, who had been funding the development of both DiS and sister music sites The Lipster, Thrash Hits and The Quietus. Since the end of the partnership those sites have become independent concerns, while Adams will focus his attention back to the DiS site and its spin off DiS branded ventures.

Writing in the latest DiS emailer, Adams says: “DiS is not dying. We’re having a small rethink and going back to our roots tho, for various reasons. Perhaps it’s because something transcendental seems to happen every year after Reading Festival, because it is where, over several drinks, the plan to launch both my first email fanzine and Drowned In Sound were considered, concocted and confirmed. Things have changed both a little and a lot since those heady teenage days, which have gone to prove, with enough enthusiasm, everything was and still is possible”.

He continued: “These past few weeks have been odd around DiS but I’d just like to take this opportunity to thank those we’ve sadly had to make redundant for all of their hard and wonderful work. A very special public thank you goes out to Mister Mike Diver who is utterly irreplaceable and will be missed (but will hopefully continue writing after his marriage). I’d also like to quash all rumours that DiS is likely to disappear in a puff of burning promo smoke. Some things can weather any storm and DiS really isn’t going anywhere except onwards and upwards. In fact, there’s a face-lift is going on behind the scenes to improve things, especially the community features”.

We at Radio Magnetic say welcome back to the world of indipendents. It’s not as flash and things might be tight at the best of times but enjoy the editorial freedom that comes with it.

Good luck with the future guys!
