25.03.09 | Ramblings About Township Funk

This afternoon I was asked to feature some remixes of that Township Funk track by Mujava that went wild late last year. Basically it touched a nerve and this is what I had to say…

“I’m along the lines that realistically Township Funk wasn’t a great tune to start off with. It had a great hook but that was it. Production was a bit poor but for some reason it got picked up, or should I say the original b-side remix got picked up. Now I’m a bit bored of it but that’s not to say I’m not interested in the TRG mix (big fan). The guy’s definitely got potential but if a kid from the UK came out with a similar track with as bad production do you think it would have got anywhere? This is just my honest opinion on the track, you know me, I like to keep it real on the feedback. Perhaps I should bend the truth like everyone else to get mentioned in press releases. ”

Now some of you will think I’ve gone a bit Crazy Horses when I say this next bit but if you want a hook look no futher than current mad man of pop, the king of Kanye town (where everyone is Kanye)…. Kanye West. Specifically Love Lockdown. I managed to catch Kanye’s last tour when reviewing Santogold who was the support act. Most of it was the type of thing that I hate about mainstream Hip Hop / rap or what ever. The 3 ellements are gone from the eyes of the populus, possibly for good. Any way I’m rambling but basically Love Lockdown is a killer track with a massive hook but I guess all township producers have to start somewhere, right?
