Okkervil River return to Glasgow on Saturday 19 November, to play a gig at the Classic Grand venue and we’re giving away a pair of tickets. The band’s clever lyrics, intricate instrumentation and talent for creating interesting and rounded albums, have earned them critical acclaim  since their debut release came out back in 2002.

The band have followed up on the success of last year’s collaboration with Roky Erikkson with their latest album, I Am Very Far. This is the first non-concept album the band have recorded in eight years but the well thought out lyrics of the band’s primary songwriter Will Sheff and the immense wall of sound they create on each track makes it another great addition to their rich catalogue of work. Okkervil River are an incredibly creative band with high standards on themselves, which they incorporate into their live performances. The Classic Grand will provide a suitably grand back-drop to catching them live. American indie-folk band Other Lives play The Captain’s Rest, Glasgow on Tuesday 25 October.

The band are touring in support of their second album, Tamer Animals which was released back in August. The album is dreamy, hypnotic and filled with delicate yet lush arrangements, as heard on the album’s title track which you can listen to below.

Yann Tiersen makes a welcome return to Glasgow on Sunday 23 October to play the O2 ABC, after a sold out show in the same venue in 2009.

Tiersen, the man behind the beautiful soundtracks to films such as Amelie and Goodbye Lenin! also has a wealth of solo material and will be performing songs from his seventh studio album Skyline. Watch the new video for album track Gutter.

The album came together over a year of touring only punctuated with endless hours spent on the tour bus surrounded by his beloved vinyl collection, with Can, Kraftwerk and Neu! being particular influences.

US Black metal band Wolves In The Throne Room will be playing Stereo on Sunday 23 October, their only date in Scotland on their current European tour, and we’ve got a couple of tickets  to give away.

WITTR, who hail from Olympia, Washington, are one of the most important and highly regarded bands in extreme music today. Their three records to date, Diadem of 12 Stars, Two Hunters and Black Cascade have garnered acclaim from underground zine writers to the New York Times.

Their sound can be described as a blend of earthly resonance and 90’s Scandinavian metal and popular themes the band explore in their music range from the apocalypse to anti-materialism.

Main band members, brothers Aaron and Nathan Weaver, have stated in interviews that WITTR are essentially a live band and unlike most modern metal bands they use vintage amplifiers and recording equipment to give their live shows a really unique sound.

Australian indie band Cloud Control play Glasgow’s Oran Mor on Thursday 6 October. It’s the second of two Scottish gigs, the first being Electric Circus in Edinburgh the previous night. The band have had a great 12 months, receiving not only praise and plaudits in their homeland upon the release of their debut album Bliss Release but have also seen their profile rise quickly in the UK. This is largely due to the high volume of radio play received for their addictive pop infused singles, There’s Nothing in the Water We Can’t Fight and Gold Canary. The latter was voted as Single of the Week in the Rebel Playlist on the UK’s BBC Radio 6 Music. The success of the tracks led to the Bliss Release getting a UK release in May of this year by Infectious Music.

Cloud Control have already amassed support slots with Arcade Fire, Foo Fighters, Supergrass and Local Natives which should have prepared them well for their own headline tour.
