The Radio Magnetic blog brings you the latest gigs, clubs, festivals and music news from throughout the UK and worldwide. Palace continue their series of collaborative events across Glasgow on Thursday, this time teaming up with Likwit Fusion.

Palace are currently on a hot streak of events across Glasgow, having played host to the likes of Lil B, Brenmar and Falty DL in collaboration with some of the city’s best promoters. This Thursday, Palace are pairing themselves with Likwit Fusion, one of Glasgow’s newest up and coming nights.

Headlining the event is American duo Nguzunguzu whose R’n'B tinged tribal house sounds have been setting dance floors ablaze for the last year and a half. Their Times Up EP was the debut release on Kingdom’s Fade to Mind imprint and this may well be your last chance to catch them in such an intimate setting.

Not much is known about elusive production duo Silk Cut. They have very little internet presence and instead rely on good old fashioned word of mouth to spread word of their music. Their live show is analogue equipment heavy and fuses Glasgow’s DIY ethos with the virtues of experimental dance music.

Support on the night comes from Likwit Fusion’s own Inkke and Shalla Aeons.

Likwit Fusion x Palace: Nguzunguzu & Silk Cut takes place on Thursday 24 May at The Berkley Suite in Glasgow. The event is free before midnight and £4 after.

Ab-Soul is a rapper from LA, part of Black Hippy/Top Dawg Entertainment, alongside Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q and Jay Rock. This brand new single features the lovely Jhene Aiko on the hook and a guest verse Detroit’s Danny Brown. Great video, great song. Enjoy.

Vitamins have quickly placed themselves as the best and most original club night team in Glasgow, pairing a diverse selection of artists with production values that would make Kiss weep with envy. With this in mind, it seems fitting that they would be asked to curate a stage at this years Stag & Dagger festival.

On the night, Vitamins will be showcasing the Unknown to the Unknown record label at Chambre 69. The label’s output has included everything from releasing legends like Marcus Mixx, Alias G and DJ Stingray to unearthing gems from the current crop of underground UK talent.

Representing the label on the night will DJ Haus & Mackaveli (UTTU Sound System), Capracara and Checan with support coming from Sam and Shaun Vitamins.

As we mentioned before, this wouldn’t be a Vitamins party without a bespoke visual identity. Firstly, check out this GIF the guys created for the night, it’s crab-tastic. Secondly, rest assured the Vitamins crew are currently busy building a custom visual show that’s going to blow your mind.

Vitamins Present: Unknown to the Unknown takes place on Saturday 19 May at Chambre 69 as part of the Stag & Dagger festival. Entry is free with a Stag & Dagger wristband. Advance tickets are available from Focus skate shop Glasgow and Eventbrite for £8.

We’ve been excitedly following the Scottish Album of the Year Award since it was announced last month. Just this week, a panel of judges met and decided on just ten shortlisted albums from the longlist of 20 Scottish albums, all released in 2011. The winning album will be announced at an awards ceremony at Glasgow Film City on Tuesday 19th June, where each of the shortlisted acts will receive a £1,000 prize, and one luck winner will pocket the sizeable  £20,000 award. All ten shortlisted finalists will receive an artwork from the winner of a unique SAY Award art commission. The art commission, will be created by graduates from one of Scotland’s art schools.

As one of the UK’s most distinctive rappers, Trim’s musical output has been a bit hit or miss over the years. His distinctive flow and tone was one of the stand out features on the early Roll Deep records and his track Like Me with Becoming Real was one of the most interesting collaborations of 2010. Since then the East London MC has been fairly quiet, save for a couple of intense diss tracks and mediocre singles. 

This latest FACT Magazine giveaway East, is a collaboration with Last Japan and follows hot on the heels of news that  this will be Trim’s last release before signing an exclusive album deal with Rinse.

Tennent’s Lager have announced the T Break 2012 lineup. The Radio Magnetic team are pleased to see a strong group of 16 bands who will all perform on the T Break Stage at T in the Park on 6, 7 and 8 July 2012.

Following the announcement of the long list of nominees, the candidates for The Scottish Album of the Year are being whittled down to a much more manageable shortlist of ten, with the great Scottish public helping one act onto the list.

The Scottish Album of the Year (SAYA) is a new national prize established to reward and promote the creative diversity of music and art in Scotland. Developed by the Scottish Music Industry Association in partnership with Creative Scotland, the award recognises the most outstanding albums released by Scottish artists in 2011. The SAY Award will place it’s focus on artistic merit rather than sales history, genre or label affiliation, offering £20,000 to the winning album and £1,000 to each of the nine runners-up.

The relationship between music and art is recognised too, with a £20,000 art commission offered to graduates from Scotland’s four principal art schools with the successful candidate going on to create a unique piece for each of the shortlisted finalists.

The eleven strong judging panel will trim the list down to ten with the public being given the chance to vote for one act for 24 hours on 14 May using the SAYA app or through the SAYA website. If the public’s choice isn’t on the shortlist the judging panel will reconvene and cut one of their ten acts to make way for the chosen candidate.

Soundcloud are set to release a new interface in the next few months. It’s said that the new player will be smaller and neater, but with added sharing controls, such as a repost button that allow’s users to quickly spread their favourite tunes around. Profiles have also redesigned to be cleaner, but will concentrate more on your activity, i.e. what you’ve liked and commented on. There will also be keyboard shortcuts, but the coolest feature to us is the real time notifications, letting the artist know as their content is reposted or liked.

We don’t know the exact date for this relaunch yet, but keep your eyes on Soundcloud for updates. We’ll certainly be making good use of the new features.
