As a stressed looking Andy commented leaving the studio “Its not easy speaking into the mic when you have someone sitting on your shoulders… Shambolic but fun and at least the music was good.” And so say all of us.

A very special tribute paying respect to the pioneering and ground-breaking artist, Gil Scott-Heron, who passed away on Friday 27 May 2011, on Entropy this week. A bona fide legend of a human being who had a prolific career which included at the very least, ten superb albums.

His prolific and diverse nature saw his records delve through and explore soul, funk, jazz, poetry, blues and many of these genres’ offshoots and sub-genres; almost always with a questioning awareness and subversive commentary on the social and political environment of the US at the time, particularly poverty, the plight of African Americans and the oppressed in general.

We hope you enjoy this retrospective of the great poet and musician’s life and music, presented by Andy Watt.

Rest in Peace Gil Scott-Heron.

“A ra-pa-pa-pum”, sings Andy, “bit early for that, isn’t it?’ replies Dougal. “Less of your humbug, it’s Christmas!” Our jazz expert Andy Watt is also an unashamed lover of Christmas music of all styles. Joined by Magnetism’s Dougal Perman, Andy raises a big glass of Christmas cheer.

Taking in jazz, punk, folk, traditional carols, crooners and some good old fashioned Seasame Street sing-alongs, the Entropy Christmas Special is sure to get you into the Christmas spirit. A mostly more laid back nod to the festive season than some of our other audio crackers, Dougal and Andy discuss what makes a good Christmas song, look forward to this year’s celebrations and remind us of the importance of leaving a good stiff brandy or whisky out for Santa.
