At T in the Park 2010, Radio Magnetic joined forces with The Skinny magazine to record and film a series of stripped back acoustic sessions with some of the best up-and-coming talent on show at this year’s festival.

Over the coming weeks you can watch the videos and hear the sessions in full here at Radio Magnetic and over at our friends, The Skinny’s website too.

Next in the series, formerly known as Paper Planes, we bring you Astral Planes. Three young men from Glasgow fronted by the understated charm of US-born singer, Jennifer Paley. The band blend the post-punk pop of 1980s Scottish acts like Aztec Camera and Orange Juice with Southern soul and country-blues flavours to wonderful effect. Only three of the band took to the stage in our little kitchen in the media village after the full quartet had wowed the T Break fans earlier in the day. The fourth member had other things on his mind… Hope you enjoy the set.

Well HE-LLO there, you handsome stranger, you! Welcome to this month’s Wrong Island podcast. There’s a lot happening on the Island this month:

First of all, Larry and hopefully Teamy, play at The Universal Wrong Island Versus Kitty Kat Klub on Saturday 4 September.

Teamy is covering at David Barbarossa’s Thing in Nice N Sleazy’s on the evening before this too, Friday 3 September. He’ll be trying his best to fill the disco legend’s beard that weekend, so expect proper disco and funk jams all night long. If only there was room for roller skates!

Then it’s our third birthday on Saturday 11 September so we’ll be having a big party in Sleazy’s where we’ll also be having the live debut of T&A as part of the celebrations. T&A for those who don’t know already, is the music/remix production name that Teamy works under with our good buddy, Aleks Jurczek. Check out some stuff here: soundcloud.com/tandaproduction

The live show should be a bit tougher: close to the stuff Daft Punk did in the mid to late 90s.

As if all that wasn’t enough in September, a week later, Teamy is playing the Menergy Heathers party. Glasgow’s finest gay/tranny dance night has picked the film Heathers for the theme this month so jump back to the 80s, get yr scrunchies and yr croquet mallets out and get ready for some BIG FUN.

This month’s mix is pretty much a taster of what you can expect to hear at The Flying Duck on the Friday 17 September. HOW VERY.

Lenny Valentino Live at OFF Festival

DJ Zaguiero, the man behind Radio Magnetic’s monthly Sub Tropic alternative and world music show is over in Poland at OFF Festival. Whilst he’s there he’s managed to get us some excellent little snippets of video and some full live audio recordings from some of the excellent acts on the bill.

Bands and acts appearing over the course of the three day festival in Katowice included, amongst notable others, Joker, Dinosaur Jr, Raekwon, Matmos, Toro Y Moi, Tunng, No Age, The Fall, Mouse On Mars, Dam Mantle, The Dum Dum Girls, Trans AM, The Tindersticks, Darkstar and The Flaming Lips. An incredible line-up I’m sure you’ll agree.

Welcome to the first show from Matthew Craig, the DJ behind Glasgow’s One More Tune nights. Here’s what Matthew had to say about his first endeavour on Radio Magnetic. Enjoy the mix!

One More Tune began life as a party three years ago and now hosts nights at The Art School, Glasgow every second Saturday of the month. The Arty nights and this show (cheers dudes!) are both about finding gems throughout all genres. Watch out! We may play songs you hate or, worse, play tunes you love and mix them badly.

For us, repeating and codifying one sound isn’t enough, the real magic is bringing unlikely sources together to create a new sound, and to try hard to magnify the best bits from what we’ve heard in an attempt to provide one moment of clarity for someone out there in this urban chaos we love and call Glasgow.

Next up in the series, Glasgow based folk-noir outfit, Sparrow and the Workshop. Normally performing as a trio they took to our little tent in the media village as a two-piece and blew us away on the Saturday evening of the festival straight after they did the very same to the T Break audience. On the back of recent tours with Idlewild and the Brian Jonestown Massacre, this band are one of our favourite new additions to the Glasgow music scene of the last year. Keep an eye on them.

Homeclubbing Party With Phuturelabs, B-Movie Junkies And More

We thought it was about time we put another party on for you people, so get yourselves along to The Admiral, Waterloo St, Glasgow on Friday 10 September if you’d like to join us. From 11pm – 3am (£4).

Top of the bill we have the lovely gents that run the estimable Phuturelabs.com blog and who also showcase their tastes on a monthly Radio Magnetic podcast. These lads know modern electronic music inside out and know how to get a party rocking. Check ‘em out a week before they launch their very own record label at The Ivy.

The Radio Magnetic Soundsystem and Davie from One Louder will also be providing some help on the wheels of steel and there may even be a special guest slot or two. Check out One Louder‘s podcast for RM too.

We also have a live band in the shape of up and coming, disco-punk soulsters B-Movie Junkies. We’ve caught a handful of this band’s recent gigs and they are destined for big things. Believe us.
