Details on Platfrom's forthcoming festival Outskirts showcasing the best in contemporary music, visual and performing art.

The Radio Magnetic blog brings you the latest gigs, clubs, festivals and music news from throughout the UK and worldwide.

Platform will host their inaugural half-day mini festival, Outskirts on April 28. Platform is the cultural facility in Glasgow’s Easterhouse and is part of the Bridge, the name given to four facilities that sit together in that area of the city. It is programmed and managed by Glasgow East Arts Company and offers the best in contemporary theatre, music, comedy and is an active supporter of local arts projects.

The festival will showcase music, performance and visual art all with an avant-garde twist featuring live music, readings, installations, live art and dance as well as film screenings, including From Here To Before, a documentary by singer songwriter Vashti Bunyan who will also be performing an acoustic set.

Aidan Moffat will also perform at the festival. The former Arab Strap singer and solo musician has worked on many projects, his most recent being a collaboration with Edinburgh arts collective FOUND on an Interactive Sound Installation which is being exhibited in the city’s SWG3. His performance will be accompanied by an autoharp and some cider and should be a very intriguing performance. The festival also features Crash Site, an installation by Birmingham based Andy Field. The installation aims to clear up our changing feelings towards flight from it’s earliest beginnings to it’s most modern perceptions.

The festival also has a lot to offer in the form of live performance art with performances from Project !!Wakaka!, dance from Rosalind Masson and music from Future Pilot AKA with Richard Youngs and Paul Thomson.

Full details of the event are available on the Platform website. The festival is family friendly and under 12’s go free. It runs from 3.30pm till 10.30pm, tickets are available from the Platform box office, Monorail and Tickets Scotland. Buses will be running from Mono and will return after the last show at 10.30pm.

All of us at Radio Magnetic would like to wish Glasgow’s legendary institution, the Sub Club a very Happy 25th Birthday.

To mark the occasion, Sub Club are holding five weeks of classic Sub Club parties. The first was held on Saturday 31 March to celebrate the official anniversary of the club, and was celebrated with Subculture residents Harri and Domenic who played classic Sub Club and Subculture tracks from through the years to celebrate the anniversary. We are reliably informed this was an absolute belter!

Since the dawn of Sub Club way back in 1987, the club has established and played host to some of Glasgow’s best club nights from the long running Optimo and Subculture to Numbers, RM Managing Director Dougal’s Kinky Afro night, Return to Mono, Sensu and recent forays from Instruments of Rapture, Thunder Disco Club and Highlife to name a few. Sub Club has always delivered in providing the city with the best underground electronic talent Glasgow, and in fact the world, has to offer and this is why they have legendary status as Glasgow’s club of choice.

Over the next five weeks the club and it’s critically acclaimed sound system will host some of the biggest names out there. Bookings include Dixon, Omar S, Carl Craig, Matthew Dear, Seth Troxler and Magda to name a few. Sub Club’s renowned duo Twitch and Wilkes of Optimo will resurrect their night on Friday 6 April to celebrate the birthday of the club. All these celebrations make for a very good few weeks in Glasgow’s clubbing calender. With all these names coming to the club, tickets are sure to sell out so get yours soon and come celebrate the birthday of one of Glasgow’s best clubs.

Sub Club – we salute you! Keep on dancing!

Listen online, stream and download the monthly Wild Combination podcast on Radio Magnetic. Presented by one of Glasgow’s finest DJs, David Barbarossa.

This month on Wild Combination, David is joined for a couple of hours and a couple of dozen beers by local hero (and international interpretive dance sensation) James Pole.

In thrall to the sun, David sails you through the jungle and on to exotic shores. From there, James drags you down a back alley and roughs you up a little, before taking you to the best party you’ve never been to.

Now this may sound like no small feat but it is one that the organisers of Doune the Rabbit Hole appear to be taking seriously. Between the impressive lineup for the festival and the work the company are involved in ensuring children from all backgrounds have the means to learn creative skills, such as music and art, it would seem safe to say that they are on their way to reaching that goal.

A Deeper Groove are the name for production and DJ duo of Steph and Joc O’connor. The twin brothers left school in 1988 and were plunged head first into the second summer of love, attending one of the first warehouse parties in scotland quite possibly changed they’re lifes forever.

Clubbing became a way of life and DJing was a logical progression. Putting on nights in local bars and clubs and after a 15 year hiatus, Joc and his brother Steph began A Deeper Groove, a website, the subsequent club nights that showcase the ADG sound as well as a raft of guests including Andy Ward, Craig Smith (6th Borough Project) Ricky Reid (Soul Renegades), Joe Di Padova, Deep Space Orchestra, Cosmic Boogie and Jon Mancini (Colours) to name a few. The boys can also be heard spinning on the internets number one house music radio station Pressure Radio. After releasing 3 EPs on glasgow’s Twitcywu music they decided to start they’re own label – A Deeper Groove recordings. The first release was the 1965 EP which receuved airplay from some of the finest underground DJs on the planet… people like Andy Ward, Rainer Truby, Hippie Torrales, Fabrizio Marra, Roland Appel, The Revenge, Brazilian Soul Crew, Alex Dmitri, Qmusse and many more. The next outing scheduled for release in April is the contact EP where the boys let their passion for deep underground house music shine through on both tracks. Contact is a deep synth and percussion led track whilst the deep chords and thumping bass in trick or treat really drive the track on…. Late night grooves for late night people.

Teamy won't be joining us at Wrong Island this month due to his London adventure going very well indeed. Filling the gap will be Aleks Jurczyk. Check out a mix from him.

Listen online, stream and download the monthly Wrong Island Mix from Teamy, Dirty Larry and friends.

This month Mr Teamy won’t be joining us at Wrong Island due to his London Adventure going very well indeed. Filling the rather sizable gap left by him (and we don’t just mean his tummy) will be none other than ALEKS ‘DA SYNTH GURU’ JURCZYK.

Aleks works at the infamous and wonderful RUBADUB record store here in Glasgow. Aleks knows his oscillators from his envelopes and his Detroit from his Chicago. Just ask the big man anything tech and watch as his body glows, his eyes pulse waveforms and electricity bolts from his fingers in sheer delight and excitement. The only time you are likely to see this man grin wider is if Frank Bruno were to stroll into the shop and buy a pair of Sennheiser HD25 headphones. As if.

Aleks and Teamy make music together as Wrong Island. As well as their own tracks they have remixed artists such as Hot Chip, KT Tunstall, Sons And Daughters and M.O.O.N. They be boss. Check out soundcloud.com/wrongisland if you don’t believe us.

Aleks will be dusting off and whipping out his delightful 12″s for all you lucky Islanders this month. This is a pretty rare spectacle and something we think you would be a fool to miss. Larry will be assisting every step of the way.

Wrong Island
Nice & Sleazy
Sauchiehall Street
Glasgow
Saturday 11 Feb.

Talking of Teamy’s London adventures, he’s DJ-ing quite a lot in London if you happen to be there:

Friday 17 February and Friday 16 March sees new Wrong party, All Night Wrong with Al & Felix from Hot Chip it’s at The Baby Bathhouse, Stoke Newington Church Street. Costs £5 and is on from 10PM – 3AM.

Then on Friday 9 March it’s the New Build album launch with 2 Bears, Domenik Eulberg & Hannah Holland at the Corsica Studios, between 8PM – 4AM.
