This years Kelburn Garden Party takes place on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4  July in the grounds of Kelburn Castle near Largs. With a lineup that boasts live sets from the likes of Broken Records, Meursalt and DJ Vadim’s newest project TheElectric, plus DJ sets from Vic Galloway, Taz Buckfaster and DJ NoFace amongst others, this years festival is hotting up to be even better than last years.

Once again placed in a magical woodland setting, the festival also boasts a whole host of other goings-on including poetry readings by the waterfall, drum lessons on the lawn and a ceilidh in the main square plus the castle itself in all it’s graffiti’d glory.

With all this in mind we caught up with DJ Vadim, Taz Buckfaster and poet Nicola Roberts to see what’s in store at this years festival.

Saturday 8 May saw another Viewpoint Session at the grounds of Kelburn Castle home to the Kelburn Garden Party music festival. An fun evening was had featuring live sets and DJ sessions from Mungo’s Hi Fi, FOUND, Boom Monk Ben, Soom T, Astro Boy, DJ No Face, Skeleton Boy and the Radio Magnetic Soundsystem.

They played the main stage on the Saturday of the festival and were another highlight of the magical festival back in June. Gol are Roxana Pope on Vocals (Persian & English), Pete Vilk (Drum kit & samples), Yann Seznec (Keyboards & live sampling), Allan Ferguson (Bass), Mat Clements (Percussion) and John Burgess (Saxophones, clarinet & guitar). Hope you enjoy the set.

Don’t forget about the Kelburn Viewpoint Session # 1 on Saturday 8 May 2010 with Radio Magnetic, Mungo’s Hi Fi, FOUND, Boom Monk Ben and Soom T to name a select handful of the acts on show there. Should be a good one.

The latest Kelburn Garden Party live session comes courtesy of the festival’s main booker and the DJ and promoter behind Edinburgh club night, Departure Lounge, DJ Astroboy.

Astroboy is the DJ and promoter behind global beat institution Departure Lounge and soul and funk session Four Corners. He has played and staged parties big and small from Cape Town to Helsinki, mashing up an unrivalled selection of progressive worldwide sounds, ancient to future.

His set on Saturday 20 June 2009 at The Garden Party went down a treat with it’s soulful blend of electro, house and dub via UK Funky, 2-step garage and dubstep. Check out the live recording we made right here.

The second in our series of live sessions from The Kelburn Garden Party 2009 features Edinburgh based beat maker and producer, Asthmatic Astronaut. This versatile and talented young man produces a vast and varied catalogue of sounds and is known for his monstrous musical appetite.

As a DJ he first came to our attention via Japanese label, DEJINE. Also having released material on Black Lantern Music and Tru Thoughts, Scotland’s premier arts and culture listings magazine, The Skinny, had this to say, “Keep an ear to the ground for the particularly excellent Asthmatic Astronaut, he has proven to be one of the most exciting artists currently working in Scotland.”

He played on the festival’s main stage, known as the Garden Stage, on Saturday 20 June. Here’s our recording of his live performance.

Bonobo’s ethereal, jazz infused beats set the scene and tempo for a festival with a difference and paved the way for the rest of the weekend’s laid back musical atmosphere.  Complimenting the magical surroundings of the Kelburn Garden grounds perfectly.

They played at the festival on the evening of Saturday 20 June on the main stage and were definitely one of Radio Magnetic’s many highlights. Check out the recording right here.

This is the second of two shows bringing you the best live music recorded at the Kelburn Garden Party. This show concentrates on the Sunday and features an interview and music from The Aliens and music from Bombskare, Belleruche, Asthmatic Astronaut, Swimmer One, Samba ya Bamba and FOUND.

Located in Largs on the West coast of Scotland, the 800 year old Kelburn Castle provided a unique setting for The Garden Party; a boutique music festival with a twist. Back in 2006, Brazilian graffiti artists, as part of the pan-continental art-clash “Graffiti Project”, flew over from Sao Paulo to hand-paint the walls of the castle, creating a visually stunning spectacle and an extraordinary festival backdrop.

The free-spirited ethos of The Garden Party aimed to attract musically-aware, fun-loving festival-goers, with a passion for new, inspiring music and successfully created this relaxed and intimate atmosphere.

Side-stepping traditional festival line ups, The Garden Party took place on June 20th and 21st and had a strong focus on hand-picked local talent with a wide-spectrum of international underground artists, quite happily uniting gypsy folk and samba with electronica and techno.
