Next up in our series of RockNess sets from the outstanding Soma and Sub Club stages comes Soma Record’s Mark Henning. Mark Henning’s trademark deep and jackin’ techno-house sound has seen him win over crowds all over Europe and beyond and this set was no exception.

Mark has built a significant reputation through releases on various notable electronic labels such as Clink, Foundsound, Tic Tac Toe, Cynosure, Trapez, Freude am Tanzen, and of course Glasgow’s Soma as well as through his Europe-wide performances, mixing up his own clever style of deep, yet jackin’ house and techno to get the dancefloor kicking up a sweat.

His releases have found their way into the record boxes of the likes of Craig Richards, Brett Johnson, Akufen, Fumiya Tanaka, Ricardo Villalobos and Richie Hawtin to name just a few. Inspired by a whole range of music (from Dan Bell to Dinosaur Jr. to Ed Rush & Optical) Mark-Henning’s sound sits somewhere between house and techno with a healthy dose of futuristic and haunting bleeps, funk, darkness, groove and deepness. Enjoy this set from Friday night at RockNess.

Our RockNess series continues this week with a blistering techno set from Glasgow’s Harvey McKay. Harvey rocked the Soma stage on the Friday of the festival and you can listen to it right here.

Harvey McKay is one of a school of new young artists to come out from Glasgow’s thriving underground club circuit. His first residency was at Tin Pin Alley at the less-than-legal age of 16. Since then his DJing career has been on the up, touring with Smirnoff Ice and M8 Magazine before he finally made the decision to turn his ear to production.

His influences range between Alex Under, Mark Romboy, James Holden and Soma label-bosses Slam. Ironically enough one of Harvey’s first attempts at production was attempting to recreate the sounds he heard on Slam’s Alien Radio album, in particular the deep techy bass frequencies.

Check out his set from RockNess 2009.

The third in our season of RockNess specials featuring the very best of the Sub Club and Soma tents, we bring you Kinky Afro.

Kinky Afro are Clash Magazine deputy editor Matthew Bennett and Radio Magnetic founder and director Dougal Perman AKA Mr Mafro and The Kink Dogg. Here’s their set from Sunday afternoon at RockNess 2009.

The Kinky Afro club night has been one of the many stand-out clubbing attractions at the internationally renowned Sub Club in Glasgow for almost a decade. The nights blend an innovative fusion of house, techno and electronics with live African drumming and always aim to think outside of the DJ box.

Kinky Afro nights at the Sub have seen special appearances from the likes of Thomas Fehlmann (The Orb), Benga, Toddla T and Radioactive Man which gives you an idea of the broad and forward-thinking musical standpoint they’ve created and maintained through the years. The set at RockNess is captured here with the club residents showcasing their trademark merging of collective vigour with alternative rhythms and new beats and breaks. Enjoy.

The second in our series of RockNess specials sees the legendary institution that is the Sub Club's Subculture take to the decks.

Subculture is the name of Harri and Dominic’s long running Saturday night residency at Glasgow’s Sub Club. Here’s their set which well and truly jacked the bodies of the RockNess crowd this year on the Sunday night of the festival.

For over a decade and a half the reputation of this institution has grown and grown to the point that now Subculture and its resident DJs are revered by the electronic music fraternity the world over. Deeply rooted in the early Chicago and Detroit sounds responsible for today’s clubbing and electronic musc culture it’s also a night which rarely looks back.

Subculture also provides a platform for the city’s young up-and-coming DJs, notably Junior, Esa and Telford in recent years. All in all Subculture is testament to the tastes of a true musical city and is perhaps the best representation of the Glasgow population’s reputation for working hard and partying harder.

Harri and Dominic’s main objective has always been to create a party atmosphere and a forum for people to basically have a great time whilst introducing them to the best new dancefloor music around. This mix from Rock Ness presents that party-starting ethos perfectly. Enjoy

The first in our exclusive series of sets from the Sub Club and Soma tents at this year's RockNess festival, this is Mixed Bizness resident and founder Boom Monk Ben.

Mixed Bizness is the name of Boom Monk Ben’s weekly club night at The Glasgow School of Art’s notorious Thursday evening parties. Here’s Boom Monk Ben’s set which opened the Sub Club tent on Sunday at RockNess 2009.

Ben, himself, is heavily involved in the Glasgow clubbing scene promoting and organising the bi-monthly How’s Your Party? night at the Sub Club amongst various other projects in the city. Having cemented his position as one of Glasgow’s most popular DJs, Boom Monk Ben’s Mixed Bizness club nights attract substantial crowds of 800 plus to the Glasgow School of Art every Thursday.

The night continues to lead the way in one of the most vibrant and productive club scenes on the planet, catching the attention of clubs nationwide. Special guests gracing the Mixed Bizness stage and sharing the decks with Ben since the night’s inception have included Hint, Jackmaster, A La Fu and Hudson Mohawke to name but a few. Hope you enjoy his set from the festival. We certainly did.
