The title track here is an outstanding recording in its own right and Midlake‘s finest five minutes to date in Radio Magnetic’s eyes. Remixed last year to psychedelically devastating effect by Beyond The Wizard’s Sleeve, here’s Scottish electro-pop four piece, Findo Gask‘s chemical take on the tune as a very special Xmas day pressie for you. It’s an absolute belter. I kid you not.

Yet another favourite of ours over the years. The techno production of Alex Smoke is amongst the finest of the the last decade and he continues to create evocative and disturbingly warped techno beasts like this.

With a new record due for release in the new year, Alex and the lovely folks at Hum+Haw have gifted us, so we can give to you this pretty impressive taster of February 2010′s LUX LP. No humming or hawing on this one… its excellent.

The prolific Mr Smoke has released a number of quality recordings on Soma as well as remixes of everyone from Funk D’Void and Vector Lovers to Steve Reich and Depeche Mode since the early part of this decade.

Now releasing via the electronic independent label, set up and run by Jim Hutchison, Hum+Haw, Alex shows no signs of slowing down and is still a boundary pushing techno producer of the highest order and a sought after DJ, the world over. Hudson Mohawke: Ooops

If there’s one UK producer who’s been making groundbreaking waves the world over this year with forward thinking and uniquely fun and inspiring beats, we at Radio Magnetic think it might just be this young Glaswegian chappy by the name of Hudson Mohawke.

Between an incredible LP on Warp Records (Butter) and rumours of plans to have been producing Jacko’s next record, there really isn’t an awful lot more we can say. Other than, of course, the good people at Numbers and Hudson himself have kindly donated this rare recording from back in 2008 to you as a festive gift.

We predict big things for the lad in 2010. Ooops wasn’t a mistake it was  a co-release beteween the estimable Glasgow based LuckyMe and Wireblock outfits. The good folks at Wireblock which now operates as Numbers (the quite outstanding Sub Club based night) and us thought that some of you may not have heard this one from the vaults and wish you a very Hud Mo Crimbo!

Bonobo, one of our our favourite cheeky monkeys at the first Kelburn Garden Party music festival back in the summer has been kind enough to allow us to use a track from the recording we made at the festival as part of our 12 Downloads of Crimbo! series.

Tru Thoughts and Ninja Tune mainstay Bonobo has been making beautiful beats and melodic electronica for most of this decade and was on the top of his game when we recorded him with a full live band and chanteuse Andreya Thianay accompanying him for this little number.

Tartan Bullies are homegrown hip hop duo, S-Type and Jaisu. Both prominent participants in the Birmingham based beat battle showcase Louis Den. Jaisu has recently produced a track for Sha Stimuli and S-Type, our in house studio producer has just completed an excellent collaboration with Tek from Smif-n-Wessun. They, alongside MCs Depths (Edinburgh) and Kosyne (Birmingham), have generously offered this brand new and nowhere else to be found tarck as part of our seasonal giveaway.

The amazing Million Dollar Orchestra (you can call him Al) soul and disco enthusiast, aficionado, collector, DJ  and producer released his second album proper on BBE earlier in the year and the lovely gent that he is offered to exclusively re-edit a track from that Secret Sounds record for our crimbo giveaway. ‘Tis the bearly breaking even and thoroughly festive season after all. Here’s Get Funky from us and him to you as a special gift.

We’ve been fans of Al’s for a while now, we saw him at The Electric Frog Street Carnival, and as part of our Homeclubbing series and Melting Pot album launch earlier in December he knocked up this rather smashing DJ mix.

For any discerning fan of quality disco music Al Kent is regarded as a pivotal player right now. Both as a DJ and producer. Secret Sounds being released on BBE is testament to that fact and he’s also released and worked with the likes of DJ History, Kat Records and Still Music.

Another firm fave on planet Magnetic. We’ve seen Jeffrey (and his ever changing name of band) three times this year alone and interviewed him on a number of occasions too. He’s great and that’s it.

This was our highlight from his set at The Edge Festival back in August of this year and we asked the man himself if we could give you it for free, and the charming chap agreed with wholehearted festive spirit. The song was recorded live in Edinburgh’s Cabaret Voltaire venue.

Check out Jeffrey Lewsis’s website, where as well as music you can get an insight into a truly unique artist. He creates comics and is also known for his masterful lectures on the Watchmen, just one of the man’s many interests. Get some presents for your auntie folk when you’re in. Bob’s your uncle.

Radio Magnetic like to make the yearly trip to the East Neuk of Fife for Fence Record‘s annual Homegame festival. Here’s a free and totally exclusive track from the set we recorded back in March by one of the most original Scottish bands of recent years, Edinburgh based electro-folk trio, FOUND.

Ziggy Campbell and Tommy Perman of FOUND received a Bafta in the Best Interactive Category of the awards in 2009 for creating the autonomous emotional robot band, Cybraphon. If we ever FOUND ourselves stuck in a highly-strung musical wardrobe, then in amongst the fur coats, fauns, fans and turkish delight we’d hope to find Ziggy Campbell, Tommy Perman and Kev Sim.

When these three aren’t busy winning Baftas, running a record label, climbing, creating websites, making great tunes and anti-painting they like to play live. And we always like to see and record them do just that.

The Delgados: Aye Today (Instrumental Version)

Back in 1994, a four piece group decided to release a record from their tenement flat in Battlefield, Glasgow.

They released the single Monica Webster on the independent label they named Chemikal Underground. Chem evolved from these humble beginnings – partly due to the national weekly Melody Maker magazine announcing the release as their Single of the Week and partly due to a man by the name of John Peel picking up on and playing one of the first Chemikal acts, Bis and them appearing weeks later on TOTP – to be one of the most important and influential independent record labels the UK has ever had the privilege of hearing. Arab Strap, Mogwai, Aereogramme, De Rosa and The Phantom Band to name but a handful of their esteemed roster since the mid 1990s.

This track is an exclusive and never before released instrumental version of Aye Today. Donated by the wonderfully generous Chemikal Underground for you, absolutely free! Merry Xmas.

The original version of this tune featured on The Great Eastern LP of 2000, a MOJO magazine top five that year, one of this years NME Top 50 albums of the decade, a top ten Scottish albums of the decade as voted by The Skinny, it was also nominated for the Mercury Music Prize and won the Tartan Cleft Award amongst other notable accolades in that year and since.

The Delgados, although not still active as a group are still very much a staple of the independent music scene in Scotland. Stewart Henderson runs the label, they have one of the best recording studios in Scotland in Chem 19, where Paul Savage is one of the most sought after producers in UK indie. Emma Pollok continues to work solo and Alun Woodward is  recording and performing extensively under the monica (geddit) Lord Cut Glass.

Roots Manuva: Witness (Live at The Arches 2006)

We recorded Roots Manuva with a full live band behind him in what was his most ambitious stage show to date at that point back in 2006.  Part of the Awfully Deep, album tour with support from a then relatively unknown young lady by the name of M.I.A. and an impressive and inventive DJ called Diplo playing his first UK tour.

Ever heard of those two?

It was a definite highpoint in Radio Magnetic’s calendar of 2oo6. Here’s the definitive track from that tour for you live, direct, free and 100% exclusive.
