A brand new mix from Bomb The Bass to celebrate their latest release on !K7 is your latest Flavour fix. It features Hud Mo, Nosaj Thing, Bibio, Martyn, Gaslamp Killer and a whole load more.

Bomb The Bass is the pseudonym of British electronic producer Tim Simenon. The prolific Simenon has been releasing records and defining electronic and hip hop infused styles of music since his debut single Beat Dis in the late 1980s. 2010 sees the release of Back To Light and on it he collaborates with Kelley Polar and Martin Gore amongst notable others. This !K7 Flavour Mix accompanies that release and we love it and look forward to the album proper. Enjoy and keep an eye out for a Flavour mix from the vaults from Terranova in two weeks time.

Mixed back in 2003 by Andy Meecham, Steve Kotey and Dean Meredith, here’s Chicken Lips Flavour Mix for your dilection.

Andy and Dean were both founding members of acid house heads, Bizarre Inc before the late 1990s saw them team up with Steve Kotey, become a trio and release some of their finest work along the house and disco spectrum. The trio are also responsible for sterling remixes of everyone from Sebastian Tellier, Playgroup and Chicks On Speed to Headman and Maurice Fulton.

Check out the mix, it features the psychedelic Zongamin, disco from Shep Pettibone and Kano and early outings from The Juan Maclean and Yam Who. In two weeks time keep your eyes peeled for another hour of musical goodness from us and !K7. Favour some Flavour.

The latest !K7 Flavour mixtape comes from UK electronic pioneer Ashley Beedle in conjunction with the release of MAVIS. A record inspired by the soul and power of MAvis Staples and The Staples Singers. Enjoy.

Ashley Beedle’s MAVIS project was originally sparked three years ago when he and musical partner Darren Morris had an evening listening to Mavis Staples and the Staples Singers. The pair were so blown away, this led them to create an instrumental which became the inspiration for the MAVIS album.

The new release on !K7 is a wonderful collaborative LP with Edwyn Collins, Kurt Wagner, Candi Staton and Sarah Cracknell to name but a few of the talented people Ashley Beedle’s worked with on it over the last year or two. The record is as engaging as it is varied and we thoroughly recommend it.

This Flavour mixtape Ashley and !K7 have given us to coincide with the release is none too shabby either. We hope you enjoy. It showcases the amazing work of Mavis Staples, the inspiration and guiding light of the concept as well as the varied nature of the official album’s role-call of guests and collaborators.

This time next week we’ll have a very special and exclusive interview with Mr Beedle himself on Radio Magnetic discussing the latest project as well as his musical history and future. A truly inspiring pioneer and innovator and a very pleasant chap! Look out for it.

To Ashley, Mavis Staples and The Staples Singers have always been hugely iconic. “They’re the glue in our DNA”, says Ashley, “Not only was their recorded work amazing but their involvement in the Civil Rights movement really meant something to me.”

“Listen. Dreaming of Mavis, some singers, some kindred spirits, lovingly selected, having never met, each other or her, passing on their feelings, from song to song, meeting place to meeting place, finding their Mavis, loving her in the imagination, praising Mavis, the way her hands moved, how she breathed, the rebellious wisdom, the faith, sorrow and trust, the inner mystery, gracing Mavis, the city she built, the mountains she moved, the beautiful and tough songs she sung, out of heavy shadows and great light, ruins and fragments, mouth and nerve.”

Paul Morley 2009

The first !K7 Flavour mix of 2010 is a fine hour of music indeed. Its from back in 2005 and comes courtesy of Belgian duo, The Glimmers. Optimo, Lindstrom, In Flagranti and more. Ahead of its time.

The first !K7 Flavour mix of 2010 is a fine hour of music indeed. Its from back in 2005 and comes courtesy of Belgian duo, The Glimmers. Optimo, Lindstrom, In Flagranti and more. Ahead of its time this one.

The mix features classics from A Guy Called Gerald, Primal Scream, Prince and The Rolling Stones (the band who forced The Glimmer Twins to change their name to the shorter Glimmers) as well as early excursions from the likes of In Flagranti, Lindstrom and Tiga.

Lumped alongside the electroclash scene of the mid-noughties The Glimmers were more than mere bandwagon jumpers and the mix highlights this with the fact that a lot of the acts they selected in their mix are as credible and forward-looking today as they were five years ago. The Glimmers continue to tour and produce extensively today and are also as credible and forward-looking now as they were then. Listen to it.

Next up from our friends over at !K7 in Berlin comes this brand spanking new Flavour mix from Germany’s Boozoo Bajou. They released their third album, Grains, on !K7 earlier this year and knocked together this exclusive mix for us to celebrate the release of the new LP.

The jazzy dub and downtempo vibes of this Nuremburg duo’s usual recorded output isn’t what we see on first glance at the tracklist or on first listen to the mix. The mix is, however, one of the finest we’ve had on Radio Magnetic, since, say the last !K7 one?

Edits and remixes come from the likes of Pilooski, Martyn, Prins Thomas, Greg Wilson and Henrik Schwarz and there’s original recordings including Mugwump, Dolle Jolle, Boozoo Bajou, themselves and one of my favourite 12″s of the last twelve months, The Rose by The Laughing Light of Plenty.

Thanks again !K7 and we hope you all enjoy listening to this one. We do.

Next up in our series of !K7 Flavour mixes comes courtesy of self proclaimed, King of Convenience and Whitest Boy Alive, Erlend Oye. This mix from back in 2004 was put together to accompany the DJ Kicks Erlend produced at the time, a mix which continues to be played in my office and home to this day. It’s one of the best they’ve done.

Over and above touring as a DJ and with his electronic solo material in the past six years and providing vocals to an astonishing array of acts from Royksopp and James Figurine to Phonique and Jolly Music, Norway’s Erlend Oye is also a mainstay of indie-folk troubadour duo Kings of Convenience and the brains behind indie-electronic disco project The Whitest Boy Alive. Both of these acts have released incredibly good LPs in 2009 and I felt it was time to dig this mix out of the !K7 vaults with thanks to our friends at the label. Here you are! Enjoy.

Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to the fourth !K7 Flavour Mix. This time brought to you by the Parisian DJ, Tigersushi label boss, producer and artiste, Joakim Bouaziz.

Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to the fourth !K7 Flavour Mix. This time brought to you by the Parisian DJ, Tigersushi label boss, producer and artiste, Joakim Bouaziz.

Joakim first came to our attention with 2007′s Monsters And Silly Songs LP which managed to strike a delicate balance between music for the head and music for the feet. It took in acoustic influences as well as more techno inspired dancefloor friendly moments and featured the wonderfully forlorn krautrock meets dream-pop stroke of genius that is the heartbreaking, Lonely Hearts which also received a nice little makeover from the loving hands of DFA’s Tim Goldsworthy.

Fast forward to 2009 and Joakim has taken his genre-bending ethic to new heights and produced what I believe to be one of the top five finest albums released this year. Milky Ways is that good. To accompany the release of Joakim’s second album, we’ve kindly been given this exclusive mix from the man himself and our friends over at !K7 HQ in Berlin. As one would expect from hearing Joakim’s own output the mix draws from all sorts of genres and eras whilst managing to create a coherent and thoroughly enjoyable hour of music. Hope you enjoy this as much as we have.

In two weeks time a Flavour mix from the vaults crafted by Whitest Boy Alive, Erlend Oye, from back in 2004.

Here’s the third on our new series of !K7 Records Flavour mixes. Thrown at you fortnightly in a manner designed to get those dancing feet moving and a grooving. This one’s from the DFA, Compost and, of course, !K7, aligned DJ Kaos. Mixed back in 2003 it really does stand the test of time.

DJ Kaos was one half of Berlin duo Ghost Cauldron when he recorded the mix so it’s tenuously relevant this week with it being the lead up to Hallowe’en. The mix features quite a few faces still making great tunes today like Emperor Machine and The Glimmers and a few genius cuts from pioneers like Yello and DJ Pierre as well as an (at the time) unreleased promo version of !!!’s anti-authoritarian punk-funk hacienda inspired masterpiece, Me and Giuliani Down By The Schoolyard.

Next up, in two weeks time, a brand new mix from the Parisian producer and DJ, Joakim whose latest album, Milky Ways, must be one of the top releases of 2009 so far by far.

Welcome to the second !K7 Flavour Mix. This one’s from 2006 and has been put together by the sampling innovator, classical pianist, seasoned collaborator and all round genius that is Matthew Herbert.

Ever the genre-bender and always able to maintain a balance between his avant garde leanings and political beliefs with a crowd pleasing and almost pop sensibility, the mix takes in everything from Wishmountain to Mr Oizo and Herve to Gwen McRae. The mix still sounds relevant and fresh three years on and is testament to one of electronic music’s true boundary breaking innovators. Enjoy it. Next up, in a fortnight’s time, another from the !K7 vaults, courtesy of DJ Kaos.
