Black Sabbath .. Black Sabbath .. Black Sabbath … BLACK SABBATH!!!

Welcome friends to The Charge Episode 22.

Ok, Let’s get it out the way …. BLACK SABBATH ARE BACK!! We are, frankly, outrageously excited about this prospect. The most important band within this genre are back for a series of live shows and a new album in the pipeline. Whatever your thoughts on the Double O’s latter career, he has done enough in his many years to earn our respect and faith in him. Don’t even get us started on Tony Iommi .. the riff master!

Alongside Sabbath we feature some great new material from Mishkin, The Arusha Accord, Anthrax and the bludgeoning Exhumed.

We are delighted to revisit Slipknot’s classic Iowa LP which remains a landmark classic and, with hindsight, shows they were always more than nu-metal.. something they have consistently proved through their later albums.

Unsigned talent is represented by Glaswegian power metallers, Farseer with their anthemic Chthonic Visions track, and we go transatlantic to visit Brazilian melodic death metallers, Blakk Market.

All topped off by a funny and genuinely touching interview with Joel Graham from Evile where he discusses the band’s colossal new album, Five Serpents Teeth as well as the monumental task of filling the shoes of heavy metal hero, Mike Alexander.

This episode goes out with love and respect to Mike and Dimebag Darrell

\,,/

WHO IS THAT THAT STANDS BEFORE ME … FIGURE IN BLACK THAT STARES AT ME!

Listen online, stream and download The Charge on Radio Magnetic. A fortnightly foray into the best in heavy rock, metal and punk from across the globe, old and new.

It’s our 21st and, like any good celebration, we’ve brought AC/DC to the party!!

Our 21st installment, as with all our other shows, is chock to the rafters with fantastic music.

Frankly, if you can’t find some music in here that tickles your fancy, then we suggest giving up on rock music!

We’re delighted to have interviews with two bands, who come from completely different worlds within rock, but who have produced two of the albums of the year; Swedish AOR kings, WORK OF ART and Djent pioneers, TESSERACT. We implore you to pick up their albums In Progress and One respectively.

Flying the flag for the unsigned artists are our tech metal heads, ENTRO-P and CHRONOGRAPHS, each bringing unique and interesting angles to the world of technical metal.

We are interviewing thrash metal kings, EVILE for our next edition of the show, but, to whet your appetite for their pending show on FRIDAY 21 OCTOBER at THE CATHOUSE, we present the killer title track to their colossal new album, Five Serpents Teeth. If thrash isn’t your bag, our friends in TRUCKER DIABLO are playing at The Classic Grand on the same night, included is the fantastic When Angels Die too!

MASTODON, ABSU, OBSCURA and FUCK THE FACTS all round off another, frankly, killer edition of The Charge!

YOU’RE ABOUT TO ROCK AND WE SALUTE YOU!!

A monthly foray into the best in heavy rock, metal and punk from across the globe, old and new.

The Charge is 20 and to celebrate we have three whole interviews for you to digest and get your lugs around! There’s a distinctly proggy feel to our interviewees this week.

The kings of classic prog-infused death metal return, but… er… minus any death metal, with their Heritage album. This is of course, OPETH, and Michael and Frederic guide us through the new album and their upcoming plans.

We caught up with three of our favourite modern progressive tech metal bands on the ‘Lowering The Tone’ tour earlier in September. TESSERACT, CHIMP SPANNER and UNEVEN STRUCTURE all came, they saw, they conquered… then they chatted to us! You can hear The Spanner and Uneven Structure in this episode… we saved Tesseract ‘til next time! To get all at once is just greed friends!! These bands are keeping pushing the envelope and we love their music… you should too!!

As well as our interviews we have new music from Victorian-themed, symphonic metallers IMPERIAL VENGEANCE, bringing a bit of class and decorum to proceedings .. before ripping your head off; VOLBEAT bring their wildly varied and dynamic rockabilly-punk-metal to the party while two incredible female-fronted classic metal bands, THE DEVIL’S BLOOD and ROYAL THUNDER prove there is still life in that classic blues metal sound… as if it was in question!
|
We also feature the first track from the much anticipated ‘Lulu’ collaboration between METALLICA & LOU REED (though it seems we’re the only ones on the internet who are being positive about this song!!). To balance the show, in case the bile towards this collaboration is too much. We’ve got new MACHINE HEAD to appease you’re wee metal hearts too this week!

Finally, if you’re looking for just straight up face melting, bludgeoning death metal …. Get right in about THE ROTTED and TORTURE DIVISION, who’ll smash a massive sledgehammer to the side of your head and drill your knee caps … metaphorically of course!!

THIS IS THE RESOLUTION – THE END OF ALL PROGRESS

Legends JUDAS PRIEST and MICHAEL MONROE fly the flag for the old guard, but it is new talent that permeates this edition of our flagship metal show.

Amorphis & Symphony X have Forgotten Sunday – while Achren Hang The Bastard by their El Schlong – the Origin of a Monument to the Seven Year Kismet!

Episode 16 provides a supremely generous helping of local, national and international talent to feast on.

We are delighted to present interviews with three supremely talented local bands, all fantastic in their particular fields, and sounding not one iota alike! Melodic Post Hardcore act Forgotten Sunday discuss their upcoming Surface Festival gig at the G2 and present the fantastic, Icarus, track due for inclusion on a new EP; newly formed stoner rock titans Bacchus Barracus discuss sex, drugs and rock and roll …. and whiskey, lots and lots of whiskey, while drummer and vocalist Quzzy explains exactly why this show and bands like these three are so important .. heed his words… the man speaketh the truth! Finally, self titled Blood Metallers, Achren discuss their excitement at the pending release of their debut album and appearances at some of the most prestigious metal festivals in the world … also we are emphatically told what is, and isn’t, Blood Metal!

On top of that we have brand new tracks from Symphonic maestros Amorphis whose terrific Beginning of Times album is out now, Hang The Bastard whose music is just as brutal as the name suggests, and El Schlong whose music is just as crazy as their name suggests!!! We also have a solid gold contender for album of 2011 in Symphony X and their quite breathtaking album Iconoclast, represented here by the tremendous Promoetheus (I Am Alive).

We didn’t even have time to mention Origin, Monument and Seven Year Kismet …. Ooft!

Listen online, stream and download The Charge on Radio Magnetic. A monthly foray into the best in heavy rock, metal and punk from across the globe, old and new.

In the Year of the Goat, deep in Raven Woods, the SSS have a Warrant for Trucker Diablo!

It’s time to Charge! and we are here to rock harder, faster and down right nastier, than we ever have before!

We’re delighted to introduce two of our favourite, but still as yet little known hard rock bands; Swedish retro doomsters Year of the Goat and, Northern Irish hard rockers Trucker Diablo. YOTG are the magnificent bastard offspring of Pentagram and Blue Oyster Cult, but fronted by Matt Bellamy (sic) while Trucker Diablo play a classic brand of southern hard rock with a panache that an endless stream of generic American acts would do well to listen to!!

Now, want the recipe for a huge, lumbering Jurassic beast of a song?

1. Take Gojira + Devin Townsend + one part of Meshuggah
2. Mix in a cement mixer,
3. Add nails and glass then wrap in a lead container,
4. Bake at 10000 degrees Celsius then shoot into the sun;
5. Serve

You now have Of Blood & Salt; the first track to be released from Gojira’s new Sea Shepherd E.P. If this is the standard we can expect from this E.P. then we’re drowning in saliva waiting for the rest!

We close with the most verocious quadrumvirate of acts you could only imagine in your nightmares; ready and waiting to tear your brain to shreds! Blackened death metal is in full effect with Spanish crew Noctem and Turkey’s Raven Woods bringing the audio death, Anaal Naathrakh’s brand of electro-infused grind will both terrify and energise and we interview one half of the amazing Chronocide from Glasgow who show that the spite in Scotland is alive and well… just don’t call them brutal!

RAINING BLOOD – FROM A LACERATED SKY!!

PS/ Gojira’s Sea Shepherd E.P. is not quite available as yet … Ken’s getting a wee bit ahead of himself … anticipation’s too much for him!

Anybody looking to have their demo/album/E.P. covered in the show please send your details to ken@radiomagnetic.com or get in contact via Facebook!
