This week Soma launch the debut of their new mix series ‘Sci-Fi-Lo-Fi’ mixed by non other than Andrew Weather all. As the name suggests Sci-Fi-Lo-Fi is an exploration into more organic forms of music while still keeping an off kilter edge that will keep fans of Weatherall’s electronic side entertained.
Mixed entirely on vinyl, Weatherall describes his ‘Sci-Fi-Lo-Fi’ debut thus “The tracks on ‘Sci-Fi-Lo-Fi’ are a cross section of music I was listening to during the writing and recording of The Two Lone Swordsmen “Wrong Meetting” albums. Rock-a-billy and glam rock were my introduction to the Martian transmissions that still invade my brain. The tracks also represent some of the music I was playing at “Wrong Music”, a monthly evening hosted by myself and Ivan Smagghe. In fact the idea for the compilation came from the good people at Soma after they heard a CD given away at the first night. They therefore have no one to blame but themselves.”
Soma have got themselves to blame for this brilliant compilation and although some might see it as a step away from what makes Soma, ‘Sci-Fi-Lo-Fi’ looks set to become a seminal series offering a glimpse into the musical lives of your favourite DJs.
Check out this guest mix which will give you a flavour of what’s on the compilation which we have two copies of to give away.
