Soma’s new boy Decimal was flown over from Chicago to play during their takeover of the Unknown Pleasures stage at this years Hydro Connect Festival.
Booking those flights was one of the best things Soma has done this year as the young straight laced techno producer delivered a spectacular live set to a large crowd of UK fans old and new. As one half of Enemy Records, Decimal has already had a number of releases reaching critical acclaim from the likes of Richie Hawtin which explains why the crowd in the tent grew substantially when the rolling bass line of Decimals first track started moving the PA. Could this be the early Daft Punk replacement Soma have been looking for all these years? If this set is anything to go by then the answer is a resounding YES.
Decimal’s debut Soma release, ‘Technicolor Lover EP’, which Clash Magazine described perfectly as ‘a fucking blinder’, saw him gain new supporters in Mauro Picotto, Par Grindvik, Mark Broom and Dan Curtin. ‘Babylon’, his newest release looks to continue in that trend with its digital release via Beatport on 6th October and physical release on 20th October ‘08.
