tortoise 450We’ve got a pair of tickets up for grabs to see sonic post-rock pioneers Tortoise live at The Royal Festival Hall where they’re performing on the closing night of The London Jazz Festival with support from electronic krautrock legends and fellow sonic pioneers, Cluster.

Tortoise‘s sixth studio album, Beacons Of Ancestorship, came out this year on Thrill Jockey and it’s been a favourite in the Radio Magnetic office since then. Click here to get a free download of Tortoise’s track, Prepare Your Coffin.

Support from Brian Eno and David Bowie‘s favourite German’s, Cluster only adds to the anticipation of what should be a magnificent event. Sunday 22 November is the date for your diary, it starts at 19.30 and tickets cost a very reasonable £17.50.

Taking influence from Tortoise, Trouble Tune is a specially curated afternoon of free live music and visuals exploring the territories between jazz and experimental music. From 3pm on the day, The Clore Ballroom at the Royal Festival Hall will be transformed into a meeting ground for live collaboration between musicians, DJs and visual artists. This special afternoon will feature a 60-minute DJ set by ‘Appleblim’ (Laurie Osborne), one of the most respected names in UK dubstep; a special collaboration between dubstep multi-instrumentalist Bass Clef (Ralph Cumbers) and a collective of live musicians led by Shabaka Hutchings and Jason Yarde; live dubstep artist Geiom (Kamal Joory); Matt Yee King performing with a piece of computer software which uses live-coding to generate music; plus live visuals by the Tilt Collective.

The London Jazz Festival is the UK’s largest annual celebration of jazz, bringing together an eclectic mix of jazz talents from across the globe, presenting international stars alongside the best emerging talent. Throughout the Festival’s 17-year history, Southbank Centre has been one of the major venues, and this year is no exception. With more than 50 ticketed and free events the festival will be taking over Southbank Centre’s spaces for 10 days this November.
