The first Bulleit Originals event, by American Whiskey brand Bulleit Bourbon, on Friday 7 November, at The Arches in Glasgow, will track the influential journey of soul and funk.
From the classic soul of the 60s and the 70s funk explosion, to the sample heavy hip hop years the evening will feature performances from Soul II Soul Soundsystem alongside one of the pioneering legends of classic soul, Martha High. DJ support comes in the form of current Gilles Peterson favourite and old friend of Radio Magnetic, Ben Westbeech.
Bulleit Originals continues where the Bulleit Sessions left off. The Bulleit Sessions featured blues guitar legend Guitar Shorty playing with various acts from the Fence Collective.
In this programme we feature Soul II Soul main man, Jazzie B, and backing singer to James Brown for 35 years, Martha High who both know more than a thing or two about soul music. They talk to us about how they feel soul music’s enduring influence has informed their work and the scene today.
