Tennent’s Lager have announced the T Break 2012 lineup. The Radio Magnetic team are pleased to see a strong group of 16 bands who will all perform on the T Break Stage at T in the Park on 6, 7 and 8 July 2012.

Following the announcement of the long list of nominees, the candidates for The Scottish Album of the Year are being whittled down to a much more manageable shortlist of ten, with the great Scottish public helping one act onto the list.

The Scottish Album of the Year (SAYA) is a new national prize established to reward and promote the creative diversity of music and art in Scotland. Developed by the Scottish Music Industry Association in partnership with Creative Scotland, the award recognises the most outstanding albums released by Scottish artists in 2011. The SAY Award will place it’s focus on artistic merit rather than sales history, genre or label affiliation, offering £20,000 to the winning album and £1,000 to each of the nine runners-up.

The relationship between music and art is recognised too, with a £20,000 art commission offered to graduates from Scotland’s four principal art schools with the successful candidate going on to create a unique piece for each of the shortlisted finalists.

The eleven strong judging panel will trim the list down to ten with the public being given the chance to vote for one act for 24 hours on 14 May using the SAYA app or through the SAYA website. If the public’s choice isn’t on the shortlist the judging panel will reconvene and cut one of their ten acts to make way for the chosen candidate.

Having been immersed in Glasgow’s diverse and vibrant music scene for a number of years, Belmondo have just released their debut EP Dressed Up and Let Down.

Led by singer songwriter Tiff Griffin, the band is completed by members from as far afield as Hungary and Australia playing cellos, vioins and a fretless bass to create music that follows in the tradition of fellow Scot’s King Creosote and John Martyn whilst tipping their hat to trans atlantic indie artists like Bon Iver and Iron & Wine.

We invited the band down to record a special acoustic set for us.

Frost and Fire have brought Glasgow some of the best UK acoustic and alternative folk music there is and on 4 May curator Howie Reeve brings another brilliant selection of contemporary folk acts to Platform in Glasgow.

Mary Hampton is an English singer songwriter whose style is rooted in traditional folk, with elements of turn-of-the-century European chamber music. Whether performing alone with a guitar or backed by her full band the Mary Hampton Cotillion, her haunting voice and inventiveness have allowed her to create some of the most original and refreshing folk records around.

Glasgow based folk musician Alasdair Roberts is also performing at the event. His avant garde take on folk music has gained him fans around the world and his extensive catalog of recordings has breathed a new life into traditional folk music.

Serious Sam Barrett is an up and coming Yorkshire musician who performs his own mix of blues, folk and country music. His unique style sets him apart from anyone else in the UK and his natural smooth voice and romantic love songs engage with almost everyone.

This will be a rare night of folk music performances and one not to be missed. Tickets are £7.50 and available from the Platform Box Office and Tickets Scotland.
