March 2010 sees Sonic Router Radio 008 in fine form with slow jams from devonwho, Hovatron, Tranqill, Mesak and rollers from Scuba, Kontext, Eleven Tigers, XI and Starkey.

Session 008 of Sonic Router Radio finds mlr in a slower mood, stuck in a tailback and focusing a little more intently on the recent slew of hectic hip hop and skweee before the soon to be customary ‘dubstep’ mix segment.

Joining American acts like Free The Robots, devonwho & Shlohmo, with overseas vets like Hovatron, Mesak and Teebs & Jackhigh and the current crop of the UK beats circuit – AD Bourke, Boss Kite, Rudi Zygadlo & Slugabed and Tranqill the opening section seriously bumps before some hot to trot exclusives from Scuba, Kontext, SBTRKT, Eleven Tigers, XI and Starkey get warped and shuffled into some kind of sync.

No commercials. No Mercy.

Orbit is back again bringing you the finest new music this planet has to offer. Fresh offerings this week coming from the likes of Flying Lotus, Broken Social Scene and Foals. This weeks episode is named after Jupiters smallest moon Leda.

In Greek mythology, Leda was the daughter of the Aetolian king Thestius and wife of Tyndareus, king of Sparta. As you may have guessed by now Zeus fancied her. I mean who didn’t he want a piece of ? As always Zeus had a cunning plan to seduce her. Turning himself into a swan, he fell into her arms for protection from a pursuing eagle. Later that night, as Leda lay with her husband, Zeus cosummated their relationship.

If all this bird based beastiality is starting to get to you, fear not as we’ve also got a stack of brand new tunes for your listening pleasure. Whether it be the ambient dubstep of Ginz and Kool Money Kwame or the Scottish indie delights of We Were Promised Jetpacks you’ll find something to entice you into our Orbit.

To buy a selection of music from this week’s Orbit and some of Matthew Sweeney’s musical recommendations visit the Orbit MP3 shop.

Edinburgh’s Departure Lounge have got a very special night planned for Saturday 24 April. Three exceptional guests on one line-up for their annual Saturday soiree at The Caves (they normally take over the venue on Fridays). And we’re going along to record it and chat to these fine three guests on the night. You should get down there too.

The event at the end of April will see Bass Clef, the 9 piece Hypnotic Brass Emsemble and the SoulJazz Orchestra join Departure Lounge regulars, Astroboy, Jiminez and Mr Zimbabwe for what looks like the best line up for a night out in Edinburgh this year so far, by far. Expect bass, afrobeat, dubstep, dub, funk and soul in this night of afrocentric vibrations: ancient and future.

Check out July’s rather excellent Departure Lounge mix from Astroboy and Jiminez on Radio Magnetic to get you in the mood and get yourself along there in April.

Its starts at 9pm at The Caves in Edinburgh and tickets cost £11 and are on sale now. Keep your eyes on the site in the weeks following the gig for live sessions and interviews.

Matthew Sweeney and Orbit are back again bringing you the best new music we can get our hands on. Brand spanking new releases this week coming from the likes of Three Trapped Tigers, The Twilight Sad and Darwin Deez.

Matthew Sweeney and Orbit are back again bringing you the best new music we can get our hands on. Brand spanking new releases this week coming from the likes of Three Trapped Tigers, The Twilight Sad and Darwin Deez. This weeks episode is named after Jupiter’s moon Pasiphae.

In Greek mythology Pasiphae was the daughter of Helios, the sun. After a curse from Poseidon she was left with an unnatural desire towards white bulls. To facilitate her needs, Pasiphae had Daedalus construct a portable wooden bull complete with realistic cow hide and thus the Minotaur was born.

Facilitating your musical needs this week we’ve got a veritable host of mock bovine treats. Whether it be the Scottish hip hop delights of Loki and Louie or the lo-fi indie of Darwin Deez, you’ll find something to entice you into our Orbit.

To buy a selection of music from this week’s Orbit and some of Matthew Sweeney’s musical recommendations visit the Orbit MP3 shop.

Orbit is back once again bringing you the best new music we can lay our intergalactic mits on. Awesome new releases this week coming from the likes of Hadouken!, Shunda K and Local Natives. This weeks episode is named after Pluto’s moon Hydra.

In Greek mythology Lernaean Hydra was a nine headed sea beast who’s breath was so virulent even her tracks were deadly. The Hydra was eventually killed by Heracles as one of his Twelve Labours. Hardcore.

Taking the form of a nine headed sea beast this week is our latest episode of Orbit. Convenient really. Whether it be the off kilter indie of Local Natives or the less than lady like hip hop of Shunda K and Damp Heat you’ll find something to entice you into our Orbit.

For the latest fortnightly treat from Berlin’s electronic music emporium !K7 Records, we present a mix from the label’s vaults. Mixed back in 2003 by Andy Meecham, Steve Kotey and Dean Meredith, here’s Chicken Lips Flavour Mix for your dilection.

Andy and Dean were both founding members of acid house heads, Bizarre Inc before the late 1990s saw them team up with Steve Kotey, become a trio and release some of their finest work along the house and disco spectrum. The trio are also responsible for sterling remixes of everyone from Sebastian Tellier, Playgroup and Chicks On Speed to Headman and Maurice Fulton.

Check out the mix, it features the psychedelic Zongamin, disco from Shep Pettibone and Kano and early outings from The Juan Maclean and Yam Who. In two weeks time keep your eyes peeled for another hour of musical goodness from us and !K7. Favour some Flavour.
