British Techno legend, Kirk Degiorgio provided Red Bull Music Academy with an amazing tribute to the late, great Curtis Mayfield.

We had to share this one. What a lot of people won’t realise, is that Curtis not only had a successful career as a solo recording artist, he also wrote hits for people such as Aretha Franklin and Gladys Knight & The Pips amongst other soul greats. This mix showcases to both his own, and other’s classic work. Enjoy!

Images Under Construction, the debut album of Dandylion is a project by and with Norwegian multi-instrumentalist Marianne Sveen. It’s an album comprising of three parts, with the first being released back in December. The album – with a few exceptions – is written, performed and produced by Sveen herself. Melting Pot is currently celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2011 – doing so with style having Frankie Knuckles, Joaquin “Joe” Claussell, Francois K, Danny Krivit Joey Negro and Andrew Weatherall playing during the year. MP are also at the forefront of pushing the club soundsystem to new levels of clarity to be heard anywhere – so expect to be dazzled at New Year. Residents Andrew and Simon brought the MP sound to Croatia in the summer for Electric Elephant

Highlife is the brainchild of Slabs of the Tabernacle‘s Brian D’Souza and Huntleys & Palmers Andrew Thomson; created as an outlet to play music from outwith the normal spheres of influence of western house and techno. Highlife has embraced new music coming from the likes of Mexico’s Rebolledo and Chile’s Alejandro Paz, who will also be playing on the night, along with the expansive output of African artists. Residencies have followed at La Cheetah and The Sub Club. There will also be a special New Year live performance from Brian’s Auntie Flo project with Esa Williams whose debut releases in 2011 have been in the boxes of Giles Peterson, Andrew Weatherall, Joy Orbison, Caribou and many others.

Divine! is a Glasgow institution – the longest running club in the city (21 years and counting), with a new home at The Admiral. Resident Andrew Divine specialises in northern soul, heavyweight funk, Tamla Motown, sixties freakbeat, dynamite ska, easy listening and psychedelic soundtracks – a unique blend of established classics and new discoveries. Joining Andrew will be Hushpuppy a co-resident at Divine! for many years, resident at the long running Art School night Record Playerz and also Death Disco at The Arches.

This months Wild Combination comes to you a little late due to your hosts ill health. DB couldn’t manage carrying a whole bag of large records to the studio, so he used that to his advantage and turned in a selection of 7inch dancefloor (and home listening) favourites.

This year, Melting Pot celebrate their tenth birthday and as it’s Radio Magnetic tenth year in the business too we thought it would be fitting to offer you this excellent mix to celebrate both anniversaries and to showcase why the club is one of the most important and credible in Glasgow and indeed the UK. Here’s an interview Andrew Pirie from MP recently done for the Faith Fanzine, in which he chats about the history and future of the clubbing institution.

On Saturday 5 November, Melting Pot welcome back another one of our favourite DJs and also one of the nicest guys in the business – Tim Sweeney – who’s sure to bring the fireworks on this Guy Fawkes night!

Tim Sweeney is best known for his weekly FM radio show in New York, Beats in Space, which is also available online. Every week Tim invites the crème de la crème of world DJ talent to guest on his show: Carl Craig, DJ Harvey, Twitch, Laurent Garnier, Prins Thomas, Todd Terje, Horse Meat Disco, DJ Cosmo and Greg Wilson to name but a few.

Alongside his broadcasting career, Tim has been a club DJ since he was 15, playing at events in and around Baltimore and Washington DC, before moving to NYC in 1999. He hooked up with James Murphy and Tim Goldsworthy in NYC and interned at their DFA Plantain Music Studios, which led him to contribute a mix for the DFA Compilation Number 2 and the DFA Holiday Mix 2005, plus he was tour DJ for LCD Soundsystem and The Rapture.
